Under the Bridge

I like how the curve of the bridge kind of frames this photo. This is under the Lorne Bridge on the foot path.

Four Bridges

I really like this photo as it has all four bridges crossing the Grand River into West Brant. The one way in the background with the school bus on it is called the Veteran's Memorial Road and can also be seen here. There is one with white on it and the one under the curve are former rail lines, and the one in front is the Lorne Bridge.

Cloudy day

This was taking from one of the foot bridges crossing the Grand River. The building in the photo is the Brantford Civic Centre which was built in 1967 and shows it's age. The building is still in use for minor hockey teams and for the schools to take the kids skating.

Sunrise in Niagara Falls

This is what we woke up to on Wednesday morning. This lasted for about 20 minutes and then the snow rolled in. Typical Canadian winter. In case you are wondering, the roar of the falls could be heard on the 36th floor.

Niagara Falls

This was our view from the Embassy Suites on the 36th floor. This is the Canadian Falls called the Horse Shoe. We live about an hour from Niagara Falls and have been going there with our children for the past 4 years for a mini holiday.

This was the scene yesterday on the Grand River, one week after this photo. A very big difference as with 2 day of rain, 10*C temps that melted 50cm of snow.

This photo was taken at 8:30am on Thursday morning. The sign at the left is a trail sign, look where the sign is in the next photo.

This was two hours later at 10:30am. Notice the trail sign to the left of the photo, and the blue sign is an information sign.

Path in the River

This is the only spot that was open on the river a few days ago. With temperatures above freezing for the next few days I'm sure this is going to change.

Bridges

Here we have a couple of bridges out of West Brant. The closest one is a foot bridge that use to be a rail line, the one behind that is the Lorne Bridge and that's the second bridge out of West Brant by car. This one is the other one. Past that is the Brantford Armories (more on that tomorrow). I was standing on the other foot bridge that crosses the Grand River and it also use to be a rail line.

Cold Morning

It was cold again this morning -24*C, and when it's that cold I always get wonderful photos. This photo was taken in the same spot as this one. I really do like this photo as to the left of the photo there is a small rainbow trying to form.

Ice Cream?

This is the best ice cream shop in Brantford. It's only open during the summer months and thank goodness as I think these snow banks are pretty high...hehe!

Poor Little Tree

This little tree is stuck in a snow bank, and with the snow that we are having, it looks like it's going to be stuck in there for a long while.

Willow Tree

Willow trees are all around in Brantford. This one was in Farringdon Park that I took my children to yesterday for some snow fun. But this photo of a Willow tree has to be my favourite.

Farringdon Park

I love this park. Farringdon Park is just off of Tutela Heights Road, it's kind of out in the country, so it's quiet, nobody goes to it, and it has a great toboggan hill, which my children really enjoy. The sad part is that just beyond the trees in the background was a farm and they tore it down and are going to be building houses there. So much for quiet....

Bell Memorial

This memorial is dedicated to the invention of the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell unveiled the monument in 1917. You can see more photos here.

Ice Mist

This is beside the dam and it was so cold yesterday, that ice mist was forming on everything near the dam, including me!

Grace Anglican Church

This is the oldest Christian congregation church in Brantford. The first building was erected in 1832. The property for the site was given by A.K. Smith and his sister, Mrs. Margaret Kerby in 1830 marking the official founding of the parish.

Cleaning the ice

This is the public ice rink in Harmony Square. The Square use to be a bunch of run down buildings (kind of like the ones in the background) and a parking lot. The City is working hard to help bring the downtown back to life and are doing a wonderful job.

Federal Building

Inside of the Federal Building is Service Canada which was once called the unemployment office, and it also has the Post Office. On the left is Coffee Culture Café & Eatery, which has the best muffins around. I had a Raspberry Yogurt muffing today it was yummy:)

Through Rain, Snow, and even Very Cold Temperatures

Today like in most of North America, it is very cold. When I took this photo the temperature in my car said -19*C.Brrrr!!!

I must admit, this is my hubby and he has been a mail man (or if you want to be PC letter carrier) for 17 years, so I'd say he's use to the cold and his tip for staying warm is layers. Thanks Kevin:)

The Sanderson Centre

This is our local preforming arts theatre. The history of this lovely building goes back to 1919 when it opened at the Temple Theatre. There is also a gallery of photos, but it doesn't do the building justice.

Flower arrangement

This flower arrangement is at the corner of a very busy intersection. The city has been putting this display here for the past few years. By the end of August, you can not see the arms holding the half circles.

I took this today at 9:45 as the clock tower says. The building with the clock is the federal building which Canada Post is located along with Service Canada. The building beside it is called the Temple Building. The Temple Building has not looked this good since it was built. The city is in the mists of a downtown revitalization which is wonderful.

I didn't think that this photo was going to turn out. It was taken in the car crossing the Lorne Bridge. The river below is call the Grand River. I like how the sun turned out in this. Interesting.

Objects in mirror....

Fallen Hero

Today was the funeral for Captain Richard (Steve) Leary. Capt. Leary was killed in Afghanistan last week and he is from Brantford. My deepest sympathies to his wife, family and friends.

After the storm

I always love the sky after a storm. The colours are always so vivid.

Side note: I know there is power lines in the photo, and I could have cropped them out, but I didn't want to do anything to this photo as it shows exactly what I saw when I looked out my window.

Weather

This was taken this evening outside of my apartment. It looks like a funnel cloud forming. It actually get very windy and then the rain just poured! I didn't take any more photos, but took video instead. It was very interesting and a little bit scary as it looked like it was right across the street. More storms are expected later this evening.

Live Chess

Today was the Grand Opening of the new Harmony Square in our downtown. This was a Live Chess match between the Mayor of Brantford and the Mayor of Brant County. The only one to be sitting is the King on the Brant County side. My hats off to the Knights as they were in full armour and it was very hot today!

Wild flowers

These are one of my favourite flowers, and they grow everywhere except in gardens. Along the side of the highways is where you can mostly see them. And they smell wonderful also:)

Big Tree

Went to one of the many parks in the city. This is one of the largest trees I have seen. The pink little dot at the bottom of the tree is my 5 year old daughter.
